On August 10, 2023, ASEZ university students volunteered at Pennypack Farm and Education Center in Horsham, PA, to support local farmers and help reduce global warming. They worked alongside farm staff to complete tasks that needed many hands. Without enough workers, crops can rot in the fields, which creates waste and increases carbon emissions.
A Hands on Approach
Even with busy college schedules, the students chose to spend their time helping the farm. Their teamwork, energy, and big smiles made the day meaningful for everyone. The hands-on experience helped students appreciate how hard farmers work and how important local agriculture is for the community.
This volunteer effort also brought together students from several nearby universities, strengthening unity and shared purpose. By supporting Pennypack Farm, the students contributed to its mission of “community-supported agriculture.” Many volunteers said they had not realized how much help farmers need or how important farm work is to providing fresh, healthy food to families.

Support a Farm, Support a Family
Pennypack Farm operates with the mission to “Grow, Give, Teach.” Every week, the farm donates thousands of pounds of fresh produce to community members in need. It also offers education programs that teach adults and students how farming works and why it matters.
Farmers at Pennypack explained that, in the past, more people understood the value of farm work. Today, because supermarkets make food more accessible, fewer people think about the effort required to grow it. To address this, the farm actively teaches younger generations about the importance of agriculture.
The farmers expressed joy and appreciation for ASEZ’s unity and support. They said the students’ help made a real difference and shared that they look forward to welcoming ASEZ volunteers again in the future.
