Q: Can I be saved by faith alone?
A: Many Christians believe that having faith alone is enough to enter heaven, reasoning God recognizes their intentions and good efforts. While good deeds and having a sincere heart toward Christ are important, it’s crucial to know the way to salvation through the Bible.
“‘Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.’”
According to Jesus, having faith alone isn’t enough for salvation. He emphasized that faith must be accompanied by action, highlighting the importance of baptism and other teachings for salvation.
“‘No,’ said Peter, ‘you shall never wash my feet.’ Jesus answered, ‘Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.’”
At this time, Peter already had faith in Jesus. However, Christ said that he had no part with him unless he washed his feet. Thus, without taking the action of washing his feet, Peter could not be saved.
“‘Not every who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.’”
Jesus explicitly emphasized the importance of doing the will of God for entering heaven. He did not mention merely thinking or believing in one’s faith but emphasized the significance of actions. Therefore, following examples like Passover (Lk 22:20), baptism (Lk 3:21), Sabbath (Lk 4:16), and other practices that Christ observed becomes crucial for believers.
